The importance of data encryption.
November 30th, 2007
It should be noted that encryption and decryption are compute-intensive activities that can slow access to stored data, especially for organizations that want or needs secure data transfers, including financial institutions. Unfortunately, encryption doesn’t help protect against device failures like worms or viruses. Encryption is very dependent on using strong and unique passwords or passphrases. Encryption devices are currently priced over ten thousand dollars, not including installation and training, making them an unattractive and costly option for smaller companies. Data encryption has been used for thousands of years by civilizations wishing to secure their data. Data encryption is a central component of critical data security for securing the distributed workplace enterprise, ensuring the privacy of the data in the database against adversaries.
