Putting It All Together: Crossover
February 26th, 2008
With crossover cat 5 cable wires, one major difference in the design of the wiring is that each end is aligned differently. For this type of cat 5 cable, you must take one end and align it the way a standard straight-through cable would be set up: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown. For the other end, the wires are mixed differently: white-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, brown. Be sure to mark your crossover wires to distinguish them from straight-through wires, avoiding confusion.
